My-Lens is an application which was made to be used by youth living in rural areas of Africa, empowering them to record their Food Environment and lead efforts for changes. The goal is to make food safer, more available and more nutritious, as well as helping youth gain valuable knowledge, career and leadership skills.
Meet The Team
Fiona Wallace PhD, MBA
Founder
Fiona is a PhD nutritional scientist with more than 25 years experience working in food systems. She head of the My Lens project, which combines her two favorite passions- promoting food safety and nutrition and helping young people succeed. Fiona was inspired to develop the My-Lens App after working in Southern Africa and seeing the issues of malnutrition, youth unemployment an lack of infrastructure to ensure food safety and security first hand. Data is the key to effective advocacy for change and that is the gap the My Lens Project and App will address. Fiona is the Executive Director of Nutrition Opportunities Worldwide, the parent company of My-Lens.
Prashanna Pokharel, BSc Biology
Project Coordinator
Prashanna is the project coordinator and UX/UI designer for the My Lens app. With a background in science from the University of Alberta, she is passionate about innovation, data, design and social inclusion. She is in charge of day-to-day operations and front end development of the app as well as communications and social media strategy. Prashanna is also a multimedia artist and she advocates through her art for local community to global issues of environment, sustainability, and social justice; her Instagram @PokharelDrawings .
Mike Khunga, MPH
Youth Engagement Lead
Mike is our African based youth engagement specialist. He has many years experience working with youth groups and civil society organizations at the local, national and international level. Mike was a youth vice chair at the 2021 UN Food systems summit, and currently holds a position on the SUN executive committee. Mike is a seasoned advocate for food systems improvement, and is currently based in Mzuzu, Malawi.
Janice Tang
Research Assistant
Janice is a recent science graduate from Western University. She is passionate about the immense potential of science as a catalyst for positive change. For My-Lens, Janice assists the team with background research, survey development, data analysis and reporting. She is excited to see how My-Lens can help improve and address the challenges of food safety, accessibility and nutrition for those in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Ravinder Kaur
Project Advisor
Ravinder has more than 15 years of experience in global health. Having previously worked for leading organizations such as the Word Health Organization, Save The Children, Deloitte and UNICEF. Ravinder was deeply involved during the ideation phase of the app. She is currently on hiatus working for Grand Challenges but remains interested in the app's success.
